Update: CTN – Cargo Tracking Note to Cotonou Benin

Very important information for shipments to port of Cotonou Benin:

Attention shippers: As per the latest directive from the General Management of Customs Authorities in Benin, starting from September 1st, 2019, all shipments bound for Cotonou, including containers and Roll-On/Roll-Off (RORO) cargoes, as well as transit cargo, must be accompanied by a Cargo Tracking Note (CTN).

It is shipper’s responsibility to supply the Carrier with the CTN, which needs to be inserted in the body of the Original Bill of Lading and manifests. CTN to Cotonou has a cost of $175 per vehicle.

Steam Ship Lines will be still accept and load cargo not yet covered by CTN, but please be aware that no release of originals, or PAD will be authorized without CTN in place.

If the CTN number is not provided before vessel’s arrival at destination, the cargo will NOT be discharged, but kept on board and returned to its origin Port of Loading, at Shipper’s expenses.

There will be no regularization at destination of CTN  after discharging.

Documents Required for CTN:

  1. Scanned copy of the Bill of Lading.
  2. Scanned copy of the Commercial Invoice.
  3. Scanned copy of the Freight Invoice.
  4. Export Declaration printout.
  5. Packing List.
  6. Scanned copy of the Original Vehicle Title (for vehicle shipments).

Please ensure these requirements are met to avoid delays and additional costs. Compliance with the CTN mandate is crucial for all shipments to Cotonou, Benin, to ensure a smooth and uninterrupted delivery process.
